guide to bf2 combat
the battlefield 2 tour of  duty™:

“Taking the battlefield experience another step forward”

Preface

This document offers a wealth of information about BF2 Combat, including how it works and what you will need to do to get set up to play. It also outlines the rules for the Tour and provides walkthroughs for signing up and for configuring Teamspeak.

BF2 Combat is a Tour of Duty. Unlike a clan ladder or other online tournaments, our members participate in a simulated war, with commanding officers, divisions, and a grand strategy map showing the progress of the war from week to week. The Tour revolves around regular practices, large-scale company practices and huge, ten hour battles fought twice a week across a variety of servers. Members may attend as much or as little of battles as they like.

Players will join an army (China, MEC or NATO) and will be assigned to one of that army's divisions. Each division will have a general who will make strategic decisions on where his division will fight. Twice a week the divisions will fight battles with the opposing army on maps representing the territory being fought for. The progress of the war is displayed on a strategy map where territories change color based on which army controls them. Each Tour lasts approximately 12 weeks. At the end of each Tour, the outcome of the prior conflict is taken into consideration and the battle will enter new areas, featuring new content and action.

While we are a very serious gaming community we understand that our members have lives; you will be able to attend as much or as little of battles as you would like. Welcome to BF2 Combat, and we'd love to give you the opportunity to play Battlefield 2 the way it's meant to be played ®. Signup and start your online military career today!

Tour Highlights

Map of the current Pacific theater. If the China is very victorious they could force the US out of mainland China and the Koreas and begin exerting influence on Japan. Once the Tour is finalized, all dots will correspond to a different map.

The Globe Weekly, BF2 Combat's humorous official news paper, covers news from all three factions.

Tour of Duty Operation

This section explains how our Tour of Duty operates. It is not essential that you understand this to play in the Tour of Duty, but it provides a glimpse into what is going on behind the scenes.

Our Tour of Duty simulates an actual war, and as such, is conducted in phases. Unlike some other “tournaments” online, our Tour of Duty operates in distinct phases.
In the first stage of the Tour of Duty there are two main theaters, Iran/Iraq in the Middle East Theater and Southern Japan, the Koreas, and Eastern China in the Asian theater. Victory in particular battles determines success in the war, and there is no set outcome. For instance if in the Iraqi theater the Middle East coalition is able to decisively defeat the United States , the United States will be forced out of the territory. In such a case, the United States would be in a much more difficult situation for the next Tour of Duty. If, however, the United States is able to decisively win, they will gain Iran , but the war will not yet be concluded. No side will be able to decisively defeat another in a single tour, but the outcome of one conflict affects future conflicts.

Each army is subdivided into divisions which engage each other in battle at set times. Your division will probably play at the same times every week, and you will have at least two battles per week. Server information will be posted in your division's barracks during the week. Each battle will be played on one main map, and an additional secret map which last week's victorious side will be able to pick. If the United States won last week, for instance, generals from the United States faction will be able to select on what map they will play next week. If custom maps are required for play download links will be listed on the divisional forum. Currently battle times are Sundays from 1700 GMT to 3:00 AM GMT Monday morning and Thursdays 1700 GMT to 300 AM GMT Friday morning. This translates into 1200 – 2200 EST both days.

During the first Tour of Duty, members can enlist to fight for the United States, on the armies of the Middle East Coalition, or as a Chinese soldier. The number of sides for which someone can fight may expand to include additional sides. Please note that purchasing future Battlefield 2 expansion packs might be necessary for playing in Battlefield 2 Combat's future Tours of Duty.

• Members of Battlefield 2 Combat may not harass in any manner either members of Battlefield 2 Combat, or members of the external gaming community in any way. • Members of Battlefield 2 Combat are not allowed to post offensive quotations or imagery, including, but not limited to, that which is: racist, anti-Semitic, pornographic, or otherwise offensive, as part of their signatures or elsewhere in the forums. Members are encouraged to remain on Teamspeak whenever possible. There is more information about Teamspeak in the Teamspeak section of the FAQ. Please note that we will be using Teamspeak instead of Voice over IP for battles, practices, scrimmages, and general play.

Clan Fusion

Battlefield 2 Combat Clan Fusion is a great way for clans to join Battlefield 2 Combat. If you have a clan and are looking for a great way to improve your skills then check out this program. If you decide to join through Clan Fusion, we reserve the right to assign your clan to the side with the fewest members to preserve balance.

Battlefield 2 Combat Clan Fusion allows clans to join the same side and to play as one cohesive unit. Players will all be assigned to the same sub-unit, a group of ten players, and will be able to play together during battles and practices. Players enrolling in this program will be free to participate in all other areas of the division, including special forces, and the air-force, but will need to go through the same procedures as everyone else. Clan Fusion is designed to integrate larger units and accommodate, and is not intended to create semi-autonomous groups within BF2 Combat. Players who join through Clan Fusion must also abide by all other BF2 Combat rules. If you are interested in joining, please contact relations@combatstudios.com.

To be eligible for this program you do not need to join with your entire clan. You may also be currently enrolled in the Tour to participate. Tour of Duty involvement does not supercede other clan commitments. You will still be able to practice together, attend clan matches together, and do all things you would otherwise, you will just have a great place to get better and a whole new style of play to try out.

Qualification Programs and Teams

This section details the numerous qualification programs available for players. These might not all be there from day one, but will integrated shortly after the Tour of Duty goes live. Please note that different divisions may have slightly different names for the programs.

There are also a variety of teams in which you can participate if you're interested. BF2 Combat currently has the following teams:

  1. Map making team
  2. Movie productions squad
  3. Mod team
  4. Public server team
  5. New recruit introduction team

In Battlefield 2 Combat players can qualify for certain skills, just like in real armies.
Not every weapon requires qualification, however, players are encouraged to qualify for whatever they can, as it will improve your skill and make you more useful to your division.

Training is conducted on a divisional basis, and is run by a training officer (usually a sergeant) who is appointed by a captain or by the general. Qualifying for a particular skill in Battlefield 2 Combat is not easy, but players are permitted to try as many times as they would like.

Players qualify on custom built maps, which test particular skill sets. Qualification programs may also be available on a graded basis, with different tiers of qualification.
Upon qualifying players are issued ribbons which are visible in the medals section, and depending on the certification, may also have to add an additional tag to their in game profiles.

Skills in which one can qualify (note: may depend on divisional assignment):

Flying: (Players who qualify in particular air vehicles are not necessarily added to the Air Force immediately, rather they act as reserve pilots in the case of a significant shortage of pilots).

Armor: Players can qualify for each armor piece, including tanks, fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers etc. Please note that armor qualification is often very difficult, and requires near mastery of a particular vehicle.

Sniping: Players must be asked before being invited to sniper qualification programs. Players do not usually snipe during battle, but may be asked to do so by captains.

Airborne Assault: Airborne assault programs are often grueling and require certification in a variety of other skills. Certification requires that soldiers be able to drop extremely close to a target, and may require that players do a variety of other things during descent, and maintain a high degree of stealth when doing so.

BF2 Army Ranger Training School ™: One of the outstanding highlights of Battlefield 2 Combat is the Tour's unique Army Ranger School , which is designed and maintained by real Army Rangers. Each army irrespective of side will have a variation of the Army Ranger School. The school will require recommendation by a general, and will also have minimum requirements in hours played, and may require a variety of other qualifications. For more information about the Army Ranger School please look at the school's forums section.
